Lesia Maksymenko failed to return home with the toddler and allegedly lied to her parents, according to the report, leading to a “be on the lookout” (BOLO) alert that was issued by police and disseminated to local departments on Wednesday afternoon.
The report states that the parents claimed that Maksymenko took the child to Cranbury Park at approximately 4 p.m., though when the parents checked the park, neither was there. A half hour later, they made contact with Maksymenko who said they were at a local library. By 5:30 p.m., Maksymenko still had not shown up and the BOLO was issued.
Police eventually tracked down Maksymenko on West Rocks Road at approximately 6:40 p.m. when she returned to the family’s home. She claimed to be lost but was arrested and charged with second-degree custodial interference and risk of injury to a minor.
Bond for Maksymenko was set at $10,000 and she is due back in court on Thursday, Feb. 8 to answer the charge.
